Outdoor Kids OT was launched in 2015. The practice was founded to reimagine therapy in a joyful, effective, nature-connected way. Its mission is for all kids to have the support and skills they need to feel successful and enjoy life.

All Outdoor Kids OT therapists are Certified Nature-Based Pediatric Therapists™ with advanced training and ongoing mentoring in the ConTiGO (Connection & Transformation in the Great Outdoors) Approach™. The practice is guided by the ConTiGO Approach™, an evidence-based framework for best practice in pediatric nature-based therapy developed by the founder, Dr. Laura Park Figueroa. The leadership team includes Elisabeth Meikle, MS, OTR/L as Lead Therapist; Gabbi White, OTD, OTR/L as COO; Nicole Storms, COTA, OBM as Financial Manager (CFO) and Executive Assistant; and Laura Park Figueroa, PhD, OTR/L as Founder and CEO.

Outdoor Kids OT offers expert nature-based occupational therapy in the great outdoors instead of a traditional clinic. Outdoor group OT, individual OT sessions, and summer camps are led by certified nature-based pediatric occupational therapists. The program is guided by a nature-based approach that makes therapy an adventure and focuses on social, emotional, motor, and sensory challenges. Therapy groups are offered weekly after-school and on weekends. The program emphasizes collaborative goal setting with parents and caregivers, and its services are described as going beyond what insurance will allow. Outdoor Kids OT has locations in the San Francisco Bay Area of California and in Madison, Wisconsin. The program loves partnering with families and organizations who share its passion for connection and transformation in the great outdoors.

Parent testimonials describe Outdoor Kids OT as providing nature-based sessions with a blend of therapy and outdoor play, with sessions that are thoughtfully planned with activities and natural challenges while also being fun. Parents describe the therapists as wonderfully attentive and caring, and say that children develop essential skills and build a connection with the outdoors. One parent calls it the best thing they have found for their son to do, saying the OTs are fantastic, understand the kids, and make each session feel like super fun play time instead of therapy, including playing and trying new things in a gorgeous park. Another parent describes their therapist as creative, energetic, compassionate, and talented, using the outdoors to work on needs such as planning, frustration tolerance, impulse control, and working cooperatively with peers, and says their son loved going to the woods to have adventures.
